LOWELL, Mass – Junior goaltender Christoffer Hernberg (Espoo, Finland) totaled 23 saves in his fourth career shutout to lead the UMass Lowell Hockey team to a 4-0 victory against American International College on Tuesday night in the non-conference finale at the Tsongas Center.

The River Hawks improve to 16-12-0 overall with the victory, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 10-17-4 overall with the loss. UMass Lowell wraps up non-league play with six wins in 10 games.

"It's a good team win, whenever you get a shutout in college hockey now, it's a good thing," said Head Coach Norm Bazin.

Sophomore forward Nick Marin (Springfield, Mass.) scored his third collegiate goal and first of the season to give the River Hawks a 4-0 lead midway through the second stanza to cap off the scoring in the contest.

UMass Lowell got on the scoreboard first with a wrister from senior defenseman Chris Forney (Thief River Falls, Minn.) from the left half wall to make it 1-0 with 7:20 left in the opening frame for his fifth tally of the year. Sophomore Kenny Hausinger (Anchorage, Alaska) added his team-leading 10th goal of the season less than two minutes later on the power play. Sophomore forward Colin O'Neill (Odenton, Md.) made it 3-0 River Hawks with 2:11 to play in the first frame.

Hernberg recorded 11 saves in the opening period in his 13th victory of the season, while AIC's Alex Murray registered 18 stops in the losing effort.

Senior captain Tyler Mueller (Regina, Sask.) recorded a game-high four shots on goal for the River Hawks. Freshman forward Connor Sodergren (Tewksbury, Mass.) amassed a game-high nine faceoff wins (69%).

UMass Lowell returns to the ice on Friday, February 9th at Boston College. Game time from Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Mass. is 7 p.m. The game will be aired live on ESPN3.com and the Watch ESPN mobile app.
