River Hawks fall in overtime at No. 18 Boston College, 3-2

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass – The UMass Lowell Hockey team fell in overtime at No. 18 Boston College, 3-2 on Friday night in Hockey East action at Conte Forum.

UMass Lowell drop to 16-13-0 overall (10-9-0 HEA) with the loss, while the Eagles improve to 14-12-3 overall (14-6-0 HEA).

"I thought the fans were treated to an excellent game tonight," said Head Coach Norm Bazin. "I thought it had a real playoff feel to it, there was intensity on both sides and I thought both goalies were excellent."

BC's Logan Hutsko scored his second goal of the game with just 6.9 seconds left in the extra frame to propel BC to victory.

Hutsko tied the game at 2-2 for the Eagles just 1:38 in the third frame.

Junior forward Ryan Dmowski (East Lyme, Conn.) knotted the game at 1-1 with a wrister from the right faceoff circle with 2:56 left in the middle stanza. Senior defenseman Tommy Panico (Wall, N.J.) scored a power play marker for his sixth goal of the season less than two minutes later to give the River Hawks a 2-1 heading into the locker room at the end of the second period.

The Eagles struck first in the game as Aapeli Rasanen scored his fourth goal of the year to give BC a 1-0 lead with 11:40 to go in the second period.

The teams skated to a scoreless first period, BC held a slight 12-10 shot advantage in the opening frame.

Junior goaltender Christoffer Hernberg (Espoo, Finland) made 35 saves in his 19th start of the season, while BC's Joe Woll recorded 31 stops in his 11th victory for the Eagles.

UMass Lowell returns to action on Saturday, February 10th at Massachusetts. Game time from the Mullins Center is 7 p.m.
