BURLINGTON, Vt. – Goalkeeper Julia Schneider (Bridgewater, Mass.) made a career-high 13 saves, as the UMass Lowell women's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 overtime loss at Vermont Sunday afternoon.

"Tough result on the road today," said Head Coach Joel Bancroft. "The game was there for the taking for both teams and credit Vermont for finding their moment. We generated plenty of opportunities to get an important result on the road, but did not finish them."

With the loss, the River Hawks fall to 3-6-2 overall, 1-2-0 AE, while the Catamounts improve to 5-5-1, 1-1-0 AE, on the season.

"Our effort and energy cannot be questioned," added Bancroft. "It's the details and decision making within our conference matches that we need to continue to improve upon. Every conference game has been decided by who makes a play in the moment. The margin for error is very narrow."

With just 37 second remaining in extended play, Vermont's Sarah Martin netted the game-winning goal off a free kick. After a UMass Lowell foul, Martin send a strong high shot to the top left hand corner of the net, giving the Catamounts their first conference win of 2016, in the 100th minute.

Both teams played a traditional but physical game through regulation time with the Catamounts outshooting the River Hawks, 23-16. Schneider picked up 10 of her 13 saves in the second period, which included several diving stops in the last 15 minutes play to keep Vermont scoreless. Her counterpart, Coco Speckmaier, racked up six saves of her own.

Midfielder Rachel Morrier (Plaistow, N.H.) paced all River Hawks with six shots on goals, which including two free kicks that nearly missed the net, sailing wide and high, respectivly. Forward Katelyn Vieira (Warwick, R.I.) had an aggressive showing from the front lining, producing two shot on goals that were stopped by the hands of Vermont's Speckmaier.

Vermont controlled the pace of play in overtime, holding UMass Lowell shot less long enough to seal the victory.

The River Hawks are back in action on Thursday, October 6 for an American East road tilt at UMBC, slated to begin at 7 p.m.
