HARTFORD, Conn. – The UMass Lowell women's soccer team (4-8-2, 2-4-0 AE) was edged, 2-0, at Hartford Thursday night in America East action.

Sophomore goalkeeper Julia Schneider (Bridgewater, Mass.) racked up seven saves in the defensive effort, while her counterpart went uncontested on the night.

"I would start off by crediting Hartford, in terms of possession and mobility they are the best team we have played in conference thus far," said Head Coach Joel Bancroft. "Hartford was up and ready for this game and they executed well. On the other side of that, that team doesn't need help and we played more of a role in their goals than I would have liked."

Hartford broke open the scoring just two minutes into the opening periods, when Julia Carr connected with Tori Tripp to give their squad an early 1-0 edge. After dribbling the ball down field, Tripp and Carr conducted a give-and-go pass, leaving Tripp open in the box who took care of the rest.

The Hawks dominated possession in the first half earning five corner opportunities and racking up six shots, while the home team's defense denied the River Hawks of a shot through 45 minutes of play.

Hartford saw their lead extend, 2-0, in the 64th minute after a deflection off a UMass Lowell defender redirected the initial shot into the back of the net, resulting in an own goal.

Sophomore forward Katelyn Vieira (Warwick, R.I.) notched the team's only shot of the night in the 90th minute but saw it curl inches wide of the left hand post.

The River Hawks return to action on Sunday, Oct. 16 in a 1 p.m. tilt at Binghamton for their final road match of 2016.
