BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- The UMass Lowell Volleyball team fell to Jacksonville State, 3-0, in its final match of the UAB Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Bartow Arena. The set scores were 14-25, 21-25 and 26-28.
With the loss, the River Hawks drop to 2-12 overall on the season, while the Gamecocks improve to 7-8 overall.
Junior right side hitter
Elima Ahzi (Chula Vista, Calif.) and freshman outside hitter
Haley Shimon (Des Moines, Iowa) led the offensive attack for UMass Lowell with nine kills apiece. Shimon recorded an impressive .421 hitting percentage, while Ahzi hit at a .333 clip. Ahzi was the lone River Hawk named to the UAB All-Tournament Team for her efforts over the three matches on the weekend.
Freshman libero
Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glen, Ill.) totaled a team-high 12 digs to lead the River Hawks on defense once again. Junior middle blocker
Lauren Bennett (Wilmington, Mass.) chipped in with four kills and six total blocks in the losing effort.
Junior setter
Alexa Toth (Portland, Ore.) finished the match with 17 assists, while freshman
Delaney Mendez (Phoenix, Ariz) totaled 14 assists in two service aces running the River Hawk' offense.
UMass Lowell notched 15 kills and a .250 hitting percentage with the final set, after posting just 20 kills in the first two frames.
The River Hawk Volleyball team returns to the court on Saturday, September 26th for a 6 p.m. match at Sacred Heart.
