MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - The River Hawks concluded their last tournament of the season at the New England Championship on Sunday, where they finished in fourth place.
UMass Lowell posted a score of 315 in the second round, a five stroke improvement from round one, giving them a score of 635 for the tournament. The hosting school, Rhode Island, finished in first place overall with a score of 595 for the tournament. Bryant remained in second place with a total score of 607, while Fordham also held their position from round one with a final score of 623. Rounding out the field of five participating teams was Holy Cross with a score of 647 for the tournament.
Senior
Kevin Fay (Lawrence, Mass.) led the River Hawks for the second straight tournament with a two-round score of 151. Fay was one of six participating golfers to post a score of 73 or lower in the tournament, having posted a 73 in the opening round. Freshman
Jimmy Walmsley (Pepperell, Mass.) concluded play with a score of 157 for the tournament, while senior
Harry Hulme (Manchester, England) finished closely behind with a score of 161. Sophomore
Mac Cavanaugh (West Newbury, Mass.) showed a nine stroke improvement from the first round, to give him a final score of 169 in his second tournament as a River Hawk. Freshman
Eric Byrne (Derry, N.H.) completed his first tournament of the Spring with a two-round score of 172.
Rhode Island's Makenzie Denver finished first overall at the New England Championship, posting a two-round score of 147.
