NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The River Hawks took part in their first event of the Spring portion of their 2014-15 season at the Myrtle Beach Shootout, held at the Barefoot Resort & Golf Club on Thursday.
UMass Lowell competed in the one-round event with two separate teams, blue & white. Team white finished in second place out of five total teams with a team score of 316, while team blue finished the day in third with a team score of 329. Denison University finished in first place at the shootout, notching a team score of 311. Finishing in fourth and fifth were Stevens Institute of Technology and Hobart College, who ended the day with scores of 332 and 337, respectively.
Senior
Harry Hulme (Manchester, England) ended the shootout in a tie for first place overall with a score of 76. Freshman
Jimmy Walmsley (Pepperell, Mass.) and sophomore
Mac Cavanaugh (West Newbury, Mass.) each finished the day close behind with a score of 78. Sophomore
Joe Vanaman (Nottingham, England) and sophomore
Ryan Paris (Haverhill, Mass.) also finished the day tied, each registering a score of 80. Also taking part in the shootout were senior
Kevin Fay (Lawrence, Mass.) with 84, freshman
Kevin Scott (Tyngsborough, Mass.) with 84, junior
Nick Gordon (Export, Pa.) with 85 and freshman
Eric Byrne (Derry, N.H.) with 86.
The River Hawks will be back in action next Saturday, the 28th as they travel to Grasonville, MD where they will take part in the Whiting-Turner Invitational.
