ELLINGTON, Conn. – In the two-day and three-round Connecticut Cup tournament, the UMass Lowell golf team finished fifteenth out of sixteen teams.

The River Hawks racked in a two-round score of 619 in day one and finished the third round on day two with a 310, making it a two-day score of 929.

Texas Christian University ran away with the Connecticut Cup as they posted a three-round score of 845. Dartmouth College came in second with a score of 862, while Boston College finished third with an 871. Tournament host University of Connecticut finished fourth with a score of 873.

Sophomore
Jimmy Walmsley (Pepperell, Mass.) posted the best tournament score for UMass Lowell with a 225, tying him for 32nd overall. Senior
Brian Valencia (Marlboro, Mass.) finished second on the team with a score of 229.

Junior
Ryan Paris (Haverhill, Mass.) ended the tournament with a 238. Junior
Joe Vanaman (Kirby-in-Ashfield, Nottingham, England) and sophomore
Eric Byrne (Derry, N.H.) rounded out the River Hawks with scores of 240 and 250, respectively.

Valencia had the lowest single-round score for UMass Lowell. He shot a one-over 72 in the third round.
"We are still striving to shoot below 300 as a team in each tournament round," said head coach
Ken Hughes. "We gained a lot of experience playing in the Connecticut Cup."

The River Hawks have two weeks off before they compete in their last tournament of the season, the NEIGA Fall Championship. This tournament will tee off on Monday, Oct. 25, at The Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass.
