Match 2 Boxscore (.PDF)LOWELL, Mass. -- The UMass Lowell women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational on Friday afternoon in Pennsylvania.
In the opening match of the tournament, the River Hawks fell to host Duquesne, 3-0, by set scores of 14-25, 13-25 and 13-25 and followed that up with a 3-0 loss to Youngstown State (17-25, 15-25, 11-25) in the afternoon match hosted on the campus of Robert Morris University. With the losses, UMass Lowell falls to 1-6 overall on the season.
In the Duquesne match, senior outside hitter
Ella Merrill (Bermuda Dunes, Calif.) totaled a team-high seven kills, while classmate
Hannah Rey (San Diego, Calif.) recorded 10 digs leading the River Hawks on defense.
In the Youngstown State match, the River Hawks were led by freshman
Masha Yelsukova (Santa Clara, Calif.) who registered a team-high eight kills. Junior setter
Kylee Chun (Las Vegas, Nevada) managed 20 assists running the River Hawk offense and Rey turned in another solid effort on the defense with a match-high 24 digs.
UMass Lowell returns to action in the final day of the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational on Saturday, September 6 against the Robert Morris Colonials, match time is set for 1 p.m.
