MIDDLETOWN, R.I. –
The River Hawks played in the final round of the Rhody Fall Invitational at the Newport National Golf Club on Tuesday, where they finished in a tie for fourth place.

The hosting University of Rhode Island finished the tournament in first place with a three-round score of 892. Following the Rams were runners-up Bryant University with a score of 907, and Fordham University in third with 935. UMass Lowell finished with a score of 946, giving them a share of fourth place with Holy Cross.

Three River Hawks tied for 15th overall in the tournament with a three-round score of 236. The ranking was shared by senior Kevin Fay (Lawrence, Mass.), sophomore Jonathan Burgin (Hampshire, England) and freshman Kevin Scott (Tyngsborough, Mass.). Fordham's Ben Alcorn and Bryant's McKinley Slade also finished in the tie for 15th overall. Senior Harry Hulme (Manchester, England) finished 23rd with a score of 240, and posted a team-best single-round score of 75 in round two on Monday. Rounding out the River Hawks squad was junior Nick Gordon (Export, Pa.), who finished 25th overall with a score of 246.

Scott and Fay both led the tournament in par 3 scoring with an overall rating of +3, an achievement they shared with Fordham's Andrew Dufresne. Scott also led the River Hawks in birdies with eight during his first collegiate tournament. Head Coach Jim Mahoney says Scott's performance was the highlight of the day.

"Kevin Scott, who's a freshman, tied for our team's medalist with Johnny Burgin and Kevin Fay in his first-ever college tournament," said Mahoney. "The kid did really well. The rest of the team just had one of those days where they all had some problems, but I'm still optimistic that this is a good strong team that can help us build up in the standings."

The River Hawks are back in action next Monday, September 22, when they will travel to South Kent, Conn. to take part in the Hartford Hawks Invitational at Bulls Bridge Golf Club.
