ELLINGTON, Conn. – The River Hawks finished the final rounds of the Connecticut Cup on Tuesday at the Ellington Ridge Golf Club, where they finished in a tie for twelfth place.
UMass Lowell finished with a three round score of 925, which earned them a share of twelfth place with Rider University. Taking home first place was the hosting team, UConn, with a score of 867. Hartford trailed just behind in the runner-up position with a score of 873. Rounding out the top five were Colgate (883), Bryant (890) and Central Connecticut (897).
Sophomore
Jonathan Burgin (Hampshire, England) led the River Hawks for the second time this season with a score of 226. Freshman
Jimmy Walmsley (Pepperell, Mass.) finished with a strong score of 232 in his second career tournament at the collegiate level. Both senior
Harry Hulme (Manchester, England) and senior
Kevin Fay (Lawrence, Mass.) finished closely behind with a score of 234. Freshman
Kevin Scott (Tyngsborough, Mass.) finished the tournament with a score of 238.
Burgin and Walmsley both posted personal bests during the tournament. Burgin registered a season-best single round score of 75 in both the first and second rounds. Walmsley posted a score of 76 in the second round, which stands as the best single round score of his collegiate career.
The River Hawks will return to action at the NEIGA Championship at the Captain's Golf Club in Brewster, Mass. this Sunday, October 26. It will be the last scheduled event of the fall for the golf team.
