Andrew Fecteau (Newbury, Mass.) fired a two-over-par 74 Monday, preceded by a 77 Sunday (151), to lead the UMass Lowell golf team to 12
th place at the 79
th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship at The Captains Golf Course.
UMass Lowell, the defending champion, compiled a team score of 636, shooting a 312 Sunday followed by 324 Monday. Central Connecticut State captured the team title with a 597 (288 Sunday, 309 Monday) and edged the University of Rhode Island (297-303—600) by three strokes.
Bryant University (298-313—611) took third and was followed by Western New England (300-313—613) and Husson College (311-308—619) to cap the top five.
The season-ending tournament included 37 colleges and 184 individuals.
Fecteau placed in a tie for 14
th individually to lead the River Hawks while sophomore
Harry Hulme (Manchester, England) shot a 75 Sunday, but slipped to an 82 Monday to finish tied for 39
th with a 157. Senior
Justin Barbera (Milton, Mass.) placed in a tie for 89
th as he shot an 80 Monday, down from an 83 Sunday, while freshman
Jonny Burgin (Hampshire, England), who shot a 77 for round one, struggled to an 87 (164) Monday.
Junior
Kevin Fay (Lawrence, Mass.) capped the effort with an 87 Monday, up from an 83 Sunday, for a 170.
