Fecteau Leads UMass Lowell at UConn Cup

Fecteau highlights with third-round 74; NEIGA Championship next

Senior Andrew Fecteau: Two-over 74 on Tuesday.


Senior Andrew Fecteau (Newbury, Mass.) carded rounds of 78, 77 and 74 (229) to lead the UMass Lowell golf team at the University of Connecticut Cup Monday and Tuesday at the Ellington Ridge Country Club.
 
UMass Lowell scored rounds of 319-315-318—952 to place 14th among 17 teams. The host Huskies won the team title as they shot a collective 295-285-292—872 to edge Hartford (293-292-295—880) by eight strokes. The University of Rhode Island (889) took third while Bryant (902) and Central Connecticut (904) completed the top five.
 
The Tournament attracted 94 players representing 17 teams.
 
Fecteau, whose last appearance was the season-opening URI Adams Cup of Newport on Sept. 15-16, placed in a tie for 25th as his two-over-par 74 was UMass Lowell's best round of the tournament. Junior Kevin Fay (Lawrence, Mass.) placed in a tie for 46th with rounds of 78-77-78—233 while sophomore Harry Hulme (Manchester, England) shot a 79-80-79—238 to place 71st.
 
Senior Takeagi Igarashi (Sacramento, Calif.) finished with a 90-80-87—257 to place 88th while sophomore Jake Hulme (Methuen, Mass.) carded an 85-86-87—258 to place 89th.
 
Zack Zaback of Connecticut won medalist honors with rounds of 70-69-70—209, edging Eva Russell of Hartford, who was right behind with a 70-68-72—210.
 
UMass Lowell wraps the fall season Sunday and Monday at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship at The Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass.
