UMass Lowell volleyball suffered a three set loss at Georgian Court on Friday night in Lakewood, NJ. The match scores were 22-25, 20-25 and 20-25.

"We played a better game and the team is progressing," said head coach Karen McNulty. "It's just going to take time to establish a connection with the hitters and get everyone on the same page."

The River Hawks (0-2) have a short turnaround as they will compete in a split double-header in Wilmington, DE on Saturday, facing Goldey-Beacom at 12 p.m. and Bowie State at 2 p.m. The Lions (2-4) will take a short break before also traveling to Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match.

Sophomore Ella Merrill (Bermuda Dunes, Calif.) led the offense for the second straight match, landing 10 kills to pair with seven digs.

The offense received a boost from junior libero Carolyn Eddy (Dracut, Mass.). Eddy dug 12 balls and tallied seven assists. Classmate Olivia Parkins (Dracut, Mass.) dished out a team-high 23 assists and dug six balls.

On the defensive side, junior middle-hitter Jamie Muntz (West Hartford, Conn.) had five total blocks, while adding four kills.

Georgian Court's Anabelle Barinas (Newark, N.J.) led all scorers with 11 kills.

UMass Lowell has dropped the season's first two matches for the second consecutive year. Despite the setback in 2011, the River Hawks rallied to 13 wins and a Northeast-10 playoff berth.
