Senior sprinter Ashley Zielinski (Manchester, N.H.) was named UMass Lowell’s Northwestern Mutual Athlete of the Week Tuesday after leading the women’s track and field team to the 2012 Northeast-10 Track and Field Championship on Saturday at the Southern Connecticut State’s Jess Dow Complex.
Zielinski won the 100 meter hurdles, placed second in the 100 meter dash and fourth in 200 meter dash for a total of 23 individual points. She was also a member of the 4x100 relay team and 4x400 relay team that both came in first, scoring 20 more points.
Zielinski won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.13 seconds. She ran a 12.19 to place second in the 100 meter dash and 25.43 in the 200 meter dash to finish fourth. She ran the third legs of the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays that finished first with a time of 47.42 and 3:47.37.
Zielinski contributed 43 of the 189 points UMass Lowell earned to finish in first place ahead of Southern Connecticut’s 180 points.
This is Zielinski’s third Northwestern Mutual Athlete of the Week award as she won the honor on December 13, 2011 and February 21, 2012
Zielinski is the daughter of Donna Zielinski and Ed Zielinski of Manchester, NH.
