After an impressive weekend at VMI, which included four home runs and eight RBI, UMass Lowell junior Russ Olive (Chelmsford, Mass.) has been named the America East Player of the Week for the second time of his career.
Â
The outfielder/first baseman also earned River Hawk of the Week honors for his .500 series, racking up seven hits and scoring five times as well.
Â
Olive didn’t wait long to be a key factor in UMass Lowell’s two wins as he homered in the first inning of the first two contests, belting a two-run blast in game one and a three-run shot to begin game two.
Â
The junior capped off his opening game performance with another two-run long ball in the seventh, and he added his fourth dinger in the fifth inning of game two. In the second contest, Olive went four-for-five as well, and scored three runs.
Â
Entering the week, the Chelmsford, Mass. native is ranked 48th nationally with his .729 slugging percentage, and is second in DI program history with 11 homers.
