Continuing a strong freshman campaign, UMass Lowell men's basketball guard Obadiah Noel (Frederick, Md.) has earned his fourth America East Rookie of the Week nod this season, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Â
Shooting 50 percent from the floor (4-8), Noel helped lead the River Hawks to an 88-64 victory at Maine in their lone game last week on January 31. He was one of six team members to score in double figures with 10 points, marking his seventh double-digit performance in 2017-18.
Â
He also grabbed a personal-best seven rebounds in the contest, besting his previous season high of four.
Â
Noel becomes the first UMass Lowell freshman to garner four Rookie of the Week awards since Jahad Thomas (5) did so in 2014-15.
He was also named River Hawk of the Week for the second time this season. The "River Hawk of the Week" is chosen in voting by the UMass Lowell Athletic Communications staff. It honors the top athlete, male or female, based on performance during the previous week of competition.
Â
So far this season, he is averaging 6.5 points and 2.0 rebounds in 17.6 minutes per game.
