UMass Lowell men's basketball freshman Obadiah Noel (Frederick, Md.) was named both America East Rookie of the Week and River Hawk of the Week following his performance in three games from January 15-21, as announced by the league office on Monday.

This marks Noel's third Rookie of the Week award so far in 2017-18.

The guard averaged 8.7 points and 2.3 rebounds with six assists and three steals in a 1-2 week for the River Hawks.

Noel's best performance of the week came at Binghamton on Jan. 21, as he helped the team secure its first America East win of the season with two massive dunks and a total of 10 points.

Earlier in the week, he added to UMass Lowell's offense with nine points and seven points against New Hampshire (Jan. 15) and UAlbany (Jan. 18), respectively. He dished out a personal-best five assists against the Great Danes, as well.

So far in 2017-18, Noel is averaging 6.1 points per game, while shooting 42.5 percent (34-80) from the field.
The "River Hawk of the Week" is chosen in voting by the UMass Lowell Athletic Communications staff. It honors the top athlete, male or female, based on performance during the previous week of competition.
