UMass Lowell softball graduate student Courtney Cashman (Danvers, Mass.) has earned America East Player of the Week honors for her efforts in a 5-0 week for the River Hawks.
Â
Cashman propelled the team to an undefeated week at home, including a three-game series sweep against UAlbany to open league play. The shortstop hit .600 and slugged 1.800 with an .800 on-base percentage. She added four home runs, nine RBI, 10 runs scored and 10 walks to her stat line, as well.
Â
She started the week going 4-for-4 in a home-opening doubleheader against Merrimack on March 24. In game one, she logged five RBI with the help of a fifth-inning grand slam.
Â
On March 27 against UAlbany, she ended the second game of a twin bill by way of the run rule in the fifth inning on a walk-off, two-run homer. That blast tied the program’s all-time career home run record. The next day in her very next at-bat, Cashman led off the final game of the series by going yard for the 36th time during her tenure to set the new school record.
Â
So far in 2021, Cashman is hitting .452 with 14 RBI and 16 runs scored. This marks her second Player of the Week nod on the young season.
