RANCHO BUENA VISTA HIGH SCHOOL: Played three years of varsity softball at Rancho Buena Vista High School, starting shortstop all three years • Recipient of the US Army Scholar Athlete Medal Award and US Marine Corps Standout Athlete Award • Three-time member of the San Diego Union-Tribune[apos]s All-Academic Team • Received Scholar Athlete of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year awards as a senior, when she captained the squad • Finished senior year with a .349 BA • Also played for the Sand Diego Breakers 18U Gold Team.
PERSONAL: One of two children of Steve and Tara Effertz of Oceanside, Calif. • Lists the San Diego Padres, Pittsburgh Penguins and San Diego Chargers as her favorite sports teams and names Derek Jeter, Andrea Duran and Sydney Crosby as her favorite athletes • Names her parents and brother as the most influential people in her life • Majoring in nursing with hopes to one day become a Nurse Anesthetist.
