LOWELL, Mass. – As part of its fall ball schedule, the UMass Lowell softball team held its annual Diaper Drive game. Surrounding a fall doubleheader against SNHU, the program collected diapers, wipes and other necessary resources for families.
Â
"We're proud to host our fourth consecutive Diaper Drive game to support the Lowell Alliance and the Lowell Diaper Bank," said Associate Head Coach Brenna Martini. "By collecting diapers, wipes and monetary donations, we are providing essential resources to families in our local community and making a difference in the Mill City."
Â
The River Hawks made an impact on the local community through the drive, as the Lowell Alliance said over 4,600 diapers have been counted so far. The total is enough to help more than 60 families with diapers for a month.
Â
The Lowell Diaper Bank provides diapers to 120-130 families each month through local partner agencies and distributes between 125,000 and 150,000 diapers annually. Community diaper drives help the organization replenish its supply throughout the year and continue providing resources to families across the Lowell area.
Â
"I hope this is something we can continue to do every year as we help support our local families," Martini said.
Â
Those looking to support the Lowell Diaper Bank can donate diapers, organize a diaper drive, make a monetary donation or purchase supplies through the organization's Amazon wish list. The Lowell Alliance estimates that it needs to raise at least $40,000 each year to continue meeting the diaper needs of local families.
