River Hawks Visit Merrimack Tuesday, Host Manhattan Friday Night

LOWELL, Mass. – Following an exciting, 5-2 win on the road Saturday, the UMass Lowell men's soccer team (2-2-2) visits Merrimack (2-1-3) on Tuesday, September 15, before hosting Manhattan (2-3-0) on Friday, September 18.

LAST TIME OUT
The River Hawks enter Tuesday's match after taking down Iona, 5-2, on the road Saturday afternoon. Against the Gaels, junior Marinho Oldenburg (Utrecht, Netherlands) earned the first brace of his career, with the first two goals of his career. Also finding the back of the net, junior Sho Kinjo (Nara, Japan) also scored the first goal of his career, while senior Linus Musielak (Dortmund, Germany) added a goal and an assist and senior Ethan Agyare-Danso (Etobicoke, Canada) scored his second goal of the season. Also earning points in the match, juniors Justin Godbout-Garon (Québec City, Canada) and Kanata Takahashi (Hyogo, Japan) both added two assists, while senior Alex Champagne (Pembroke Pines, Fl.) and juniors Santiago Somorrostro (Nashua, N.H.) and Moritz Aé (Leipzig, Germany) each finished with one assist.

LEADING THE FLOCK
Through the first six games of the season, Agyare-Danso and Oldenburg are tied for the team lead with two goals apiece, while Musielak posts a goal and two assists to sit tied for first with four points. Right behind them, Godbout-Garon paces the squad with three assists, while Somorrostro totals a goal and an assist. In net, Moritz totals 17 saves with only four goals allowed in four starts, good for a 2-0-2 record, while sophomore Alvaro Medrano (Guatemala City, Guatemala) has made seven saves in two starts.

FRESH FACES
The newest members of the team have already made an impact on the program, as 11 newcomers have made at least one start this year, while junior Jonah Straube (Frankfurt, Germany) has started in all six games so far. Additionally, five of the new River Hawks have both contributed to the team's scoring, with Oldenburg leading the way with two goals.

FOREVER A RIVER HAWK
In July, the River Hawks lost a friend and teammate when junior goalkeeper Toby Forsythe (Columbus, Ohio) passed away in a tragic accident. The River Hawks will honor him every game this season by wearing warm-up shirts with his name and number before every match. Additionally, all the River Hawks' jerseys now feature a "Toby 32" patch on the sleeve.

GOALS GALORE
On the road against Iona, the River Hawks' offense caught fire, tying a Division I program record with five goals scored, matching the same total when they took down CCSU 5-0 during the 2023 season. Against the Gaels, Oldenburg scored the first two goals of his career, Kinjo added his first career goal as well, and Musielak and Agyare-Danso wrapped the scoring up with a goal each.

SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
Merrimack enters Tuesday's contest with a 2-1-3 record, most recently battling to a 0-0 draw against Dartmouth. Leading the way for the Warriors' offense, Keller Cassidy and Jonathan Kratz both total two goals for four points, while Salvatore Zani paces his team with three assists. In net, Matteo Malaguti has started all six games, making 24 saves with eight goals allowed, good for a .750 save percentage and a 2-1-3 record.

SCOUTING MANHATTAN
The Jaspers enter Friday's fixture with a 2-3 overall record, most recently falling to Columbia, 2-0, this past weekend. Leading the way for Manhattan's offense is forward Cristiano Marsilli who has totaled three goals and two assists for eight points. Right behind him, Ziv Dahan has scored three goals, while Tycho van Haaren has two goals and two assists for six points as well. In net, Gasper Homar Bennasar has started all five games, making 18 saves with nine goals allowed for a .667 save percentage and a 2-2 record.

MATCHUP HISTORY
The River Hawks and Warriors have battled 11 times, with UMass Lowell owning a 7-3-1 record in those matches. Meanwhile, Friday will mark the first contest between UMass Lowell and Manhattan.
