LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell Men's Basketball Head Coach Pat Duquette has announced the promotion of Matt Graves to Associate Head Coach.
"I am happy for Matt on his well-earned promotion," said Duquette. "He has been a huge part of our success over the last few years and continues to have a positive impact on our players and our program. We are lucky to have him."
Graves, who has over a decade of experience coaching at the collegiate level, joined the men's basketball coaching staff in May of 2022. In his four years here, Graves has helped lead the River Hawks to the playoffs all four years, including the America East Championship game twice during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons. Â
"I'm incredibly grateful and honored to be named Associate Head Coach," added Graves. "First and foremost, I would like to thank Coach Pat Duquette for his trust, leadership, and belief in me. I'm excited to continue working alongside him, helping execute his vision, and doing everything I can to move this program forward. I would like to also thank my family for their constant love, sacrifice, and support."
In his first season at UMass Lowell, the River Hawks reached unprecedented levels of success, posting a 26-8 record, including a perfect, 17-0 home record, in route to the program's second ever Championship game. The accomplishments continued into the following year, as the team went 22-10, highlighted by the program's second-ever ACC win with a 74-71 victory over Georgia Tech, culminating in another America East Championship appearance. Behind Graves' leadership, the team continued to succeed over the past two seasons, posting a 17-15 record during the 2024-25 season, followed by a 9-7 conference record last year to earn a home playoff game and an America East Semifinals appearance.
