BOSTON – After two strong performances in week two, UMass Lowell men's lacrosse sophomore Hayden Almeida (North Kingstown, R.I.) was named the America East Defensive Player of the Week, while freshman Danny Burke (Eden Prairie, Minn.) was tabbed the America East Rookie of the Week.
Â
After collecting two ground balls on Tuesday against Holy Cross, Almeida had a huge impact in the win against Mercyhurst. Getting the start against the Lakers, the sophomore caused two turnovers and grabbed four ground balls as a part of the defensive unit that held the opposition to only seven goals in the victory.
Â
Burke, who has made the start and recorded at least three points in each game so far this season, opened up week two with a three-assist performance against the Crusaders. The rookie followed up that performance on Friday when he posted a career-high six points on three goals and three assists, while adding two ground balls, to help lead his squad to a 15-7 win over Mercyhurst.
Â
Almeida, Burke, and the River Hawks return to action on Saturday, February 22 when they head to Staten Island to take on the Wagner Seahawks.
