River Hawks Add Steve Moreland to Round Out Coaching Staff

LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Adrian Torok-Orban has announced the addition of Steve Moreland as an assistant coach, rounding out his staff ahead of his first year at helm.
"I'm thrilled to welcome Steve Moreland to UMass Lowell as our next Assistant Coach and Offensive Coordinator," said Torok-Orban. "He is a North Andover native who has played, coached, and won at every level in Massachusetts, and he's built some of the most productive offenses in the country along the way. He's deeply committed to player development, fosters genuine relationships with his players, and brings a wealth of knowledge to make our student-athletes better both on and off the field. He believes in where River Hawk Lacrosse is going and will be a tremendous addition to the Mill City."
Moreland, who has experience coaching at all levels in Massachusetts, comes to UMass Lowell after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Merrimack College. In his second season with the Warriors, he helped lead the offense to over 10 goals per game, earning the team a 5-3 record in conference play and a spot in the Metro conference tournament before taking down Quinnipiac in the first round.

Prior to his time at Merrimack, Moreland previously served as a volunteer assistant coach for two years at Boston University. While there, he worked primarily with the team's faceoff specialists, guiding Matthew Fritz to a career year with a .534 win percentage, a team-high 74 ground balls, as well as three goals scored.
Before Boston University, Moreland was an assistant coach at Tufts, where he helped guide the Jumbos to a 19-3 record, a NESCAC Championship, and a trip to the national semifinals where they fell to the eventual NCAA Champions. That season, Moreland coached the top-scoring offense in the country, with the Jumbos averaging over 20 goals per game, led by Mac Bredahl who led the nation with 6.82 points per game. That season, four members of Moreland's offense earned All-American honors as well.
A native of North Andover, Massachusetts, Moreland graduated from UMass Amherst in 1986, where he captained the '86 team and helped lead them to the NCAA quarterfinals.
