BOSTON – After impressive performances in the win against Merrimack in the season opener, senior Riley Lawhorn (Amherst, N.H.) was tabbed the America East Offensive Player of the Week, while freshman AJ True (Manchester, N.H.) was named the America East Goalkeeper of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
Â
Lawhorn had a career day to open the season, scoring five goals and surpassing his previous best of four goals set during the 2023 season. The senior opened the scoring for the River Hawks less than three minutes in, knotting the game up at 1-1. He struck twice in the third quarter, including what proved to be the game-winner with 9:49 on the clock, before scoring twice more in the fourth to help seal the win for his team.
Â
Making the start in his collegiate debut, True proved to be a wall in the net for the River Hawks. In 60 minutes of action, the freshman made 15 saves while allowing only nine goals, good for a .625 save percentage, while earning his first career win.
In addition to being named the America East Offensive Player of the Week, Lawhorn's performance also earned him River Hawk of the Week. The "River Hawk of the Week" is chosen in voting by the UMass Lowell Athletic Communications staff. It honors the top athlete, male or female, based on performance during the previous week of competition.
Â
Lawhorn, True, and the River Hawks return to action quickly as they hit the road to battle the Holy Cross Crusaders on Tuesday, February 11. Opening faceoff is set for 4 p.m. at Kuzniewski Field.
