LOWELL, Mass. -- The UMass Lowell Men's Lacrosse team suffered a 14-5 setback against Dartmouth College on Saturday afternoon at Cushing Field Complex in non-conference play.
The River Hawks drop to 2-4 overall, while Dartmouth improves to a perfect 3-0 to start its season.
"We didn't shoot well today, I give credit to their goalie, who had 10 saves," said UMass Lowell Head Coach
Ed Stephenson. "Just didn't get a lot on cage, we were about the same on shots as them, so that was a big tilt for us. We want to be shooting 30 percent of higher and I just don't think we shot well today."
Dartmouth responded back in a big way, scoring 12 straight goals in the game. The Big Green owned a 7-3 lead at halftime. Junior midfielder Kyle LaForge (Tyngsboro, Mass.) ended the Dartmouth streak with five minutes to go in the fourth quarter for his eighth tally of the season.
Dante Giachello (Somers, Conn.) added another goal late, but it wasn't enough for the River Hawks.
The River Hawks got out to a 3-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game on goals by
Dakota Clark (Bedford, N.H.),
Domenic Giachello (Somers, Conn.) and
Jake Lining (Rochester, Mich.). Clark finished the day with two points (1g,1a) and four shots on net.Â
Sophomore goalie
Matt Murakami (Long Grove, Ill.) made four saves getting the start for the River Hawks in the first 45 minutes, while
Sebastian Boivin (Mount Laurel, N.J.) made his collegiate debut, playing the final 15 minutes for UMass Lowell, tallying one save. Daniel Hincks stopped 10 shots for the Big Green in his third victory of the season.
Matt Paul finished with a game-high five goals in the win for the Big Green.Â
UMass Lowell returns to action on Saturday, March 7th at Merrimack. Game time from Duane Stadium in North Andover is 1 p.m.
