ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The No. 11 UMass Lowell Hockey team dropped the series finale at RIT, 3-2 on Saturday at the Polisseni Center.

The River Hawks drop to 12-5-4 overall after the loss, while RIT improved to 11-8-3 with the victory. 

"It was not the result we were looking for," said UMass Lowell Head Coach Norm Bazin. "I thought different stages of the game were very good, I thought our first period was excellent, I thought we got into penalty trouble and that proved to be the difference."

Shawn Cameron gave RIT a 2-1 lead midway through the third frame with his eighth goal of the year and then Andrew Rinaldi extended the Tigers' lead to 3-1 with 3:01 to play. Freshman forward Carl Berglund (Hammaro, Sweden) scored his third tally of the weekend and ninth of the year with 37 seconds to play on an extra attacker power play goal. 

The team skated to a scoreless second period. RIT outshot the River Hawks, 30-28 for the game. 

The Tigers opened the scoring for the second straight night on Caleb Moretz's seventh tally of the season with 7:42 left in the first period. Freshman forward Andre Lee (Karlstad, Sweden) tied the game at 1-1 less than a minute later for his fifth career goal for UMass Lowell. The River Hawks owned an 11-5 shot advantage in the opening frame. Lee finished the night with a game-high four shots on goal.

Junior forward Charlie Levesque (Russell, Ont.) won a game-high 13 face-offs in the losing effort for the River Hawks. UMass Lowell was a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill on the night.

Freshman goaltender Logan Neaton (Brighton, Mich.) stopped 27 shots in his second career start for UMass Lowell, which included 12 second periods saves. RIT freshman Kolby Mathews tallied 26 saves in his first collegiate start. 

The River Hawks return to action on Friday, January 17th against Boston College. Game time from the Tsongas Center is 7:15pm. The game will be streamed nationally and internationally via CBS All-Access.
