No. 13 River Hawks edged by No. 5 Boston College, 3-2 in Hockey East play

Carl Berglund and Charlie Levesque each scored goals in the losing effort for the River Hawks

LOWELL, Mass. -- The No. 13 UMass Lowell Hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision to No. 5 Boston College in Hockey East play on Friday night at the Tsongas Center.

The River Hawks drop to 12-6-4 overall (6-3-3 HEA), while the Eagles improve to 14-5-0 overall (8-3-0 HEA).

"Overall, it was the start we were looking for, our penalty kill had some good time, other than that I didn't think we played with enough urgency to get the job done," said UMass Lowell Head Coach Norm Bazin. "We weren't opportunistic enough to get the third one and it came back to bite us again."

BC took the lead just 3:42 into the third period on Logan Hutsko's 11th goal of the year to seal the win for the Eagles.

The Eagles scored two goals in the second period with a shorthanded tally by Marc McLaughlin and then Alex Newhook scored on a wrist shot less than five minutes later to tie the game at 2-2.

The River Hawks opened the scoring in the game just 36 seconds in on freshman forward Carl Berglund's (Hammaro, Sweden) team-leading 10th goal of the season. Junior forward Charlie Levesque (Russell, Ont.) scored 35 seconds later to give UMass Lowell a 2-0 lead on his second marker of the season.

Senior goaltender Tyler Wall (Leamington, Ont.) registered 21 saves in his 20th start of the season, while his counterpart Spencer Knight posted 34 saves in his 13th victory of the year for the Eagles.

The River Hawks outshot BC, 36-24 for the game, which included 13 shots in each of the first two periods.

Levesque finished the night with a game-high 11 face-off wins in the losing effort. Freshman forward Brian Chambers (Weymouth, Mass.) had a game-high six shots on goal for the River Hawks.
