River Hawks comeback falls short against Stony Brook, 15-12

Dylan Rhatigan totaled a career-high four goals in the losing effort

LOWELL, Mass. -- Junior attackman Dylan Rhatigan (Holbrook, N.Y.) scored a career-high four goals in the 15-12 loss to Stony Brook on Saturday night in America East play at Cushing Field Complex.

The River Hawks falls to 4-8 overall (1-3 AE) with the loss, while the Seawolves improve to 7-5 overall (3-1 AE) in the victory.

"These conference games, everyone knows what's on the line for these games," said UMass Lowell Head Coach Ed Stephenson. "I really give our guys credit for getting back in the game, really making a strong push to try and get over the hump and get that win. We kind of got our back against the wall early, but we did a real nice job coming back and getting to within striking range at halftime."

UMass Lowell scored the first three goals in the fourth quarter to cut the Stony Brook lead to one goal at 10-9, but then the Seawolves score another two goals followed by another three goals for the River Hawks. SBU scored the final three goals of the contest to seal the win for the Seawolves.

Jake Lining (Rochester, Mich.) and Dan Cozzi (Reading, Mass.) reach added two goals apiece. Cozzi finished the day with a game-high seven points and four shots on goal.

The River Hawks outshot SBU, 27-18 in the second half.

Stony Brook held a 7-5 lead at halftime.

Freshman face-off midfielder Liam McDonough (Groton, Mass.) totaled 16 face-off wins and 13 ground balls in the loss.

Senior goalie Grant Lardieri (Ada, Mich.) amassed 18 saves in net for the River Hawks in the losing effort, while SBU's Michael Bollinger notched 11 saves his seventh win of the season for the Seawolves.

Tom Haun totaled a team-best four goals and six points in the victory for Stony Brook.

UMass Lowell returns to the field on Saturday, April 20th for a road game in America East play at UMBC. Game time from UMBC Stadium is 12 p.m.
