AMHERST, Mass. -- The UMass Lowell Men's Lacrosse team fell at Massachusetts, 14-4 in non-conference play on Tuesday afternoon at Garber Field.
The River Hawks drop to 3-3 overall, while the Minutemen improve to 4-3Â overall.Â
"They started out with some transition, they are very athletic on the defensive end and got some transition on us and built a 4-0 lead," said UMass Lowell Head Coach
Ed Stephenson. "I thought the second quarter we switched some things up defensively, he them to three and I thought we did well. You can't give them second chance opportunities, the 50/50 ground balls they won from the face off, those are the battles you need to win to maintain possession."
Harry Morrill (Hyde Park, Mass.) and Will Russo (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) added fourth quarter goals for the River Hawks.Â
UMass Lowell trailed 7-1 at halftime. Senior midfielder
Cory Highfield (Georgetown, Ont.) finished the day with a team-high two goals to bring his team-leading goal total to 12 on the season. Sophomore
Jake Lining (Rochester, Mich.) earned a team-high two assists for the River Hawks in the losing effort.Â
Senior goalie
Grant Lardieri (Ada, Mich.) made 15 stops in his fourth start of the season for UMass Lowell, while UMass' Sean Sconone registered nine saves in his fourth win of the season for the Minutemen.
Gabriel Procyk and Devin Spencer each totaled three goals in the victory for the Minutemen.Â
The River Hawks went 2-for-3 in man up opportunities in the game.
UMass Lowell returns to action on Saturday, March 16th at UAlbany in the America East opener. Game time from Casey Stadium is 4 p.m.
