BOSTON -- Junior outside hitter
Katherine Claybaugh (Alamo, Calif.) posted a team and season-high 11 kills and a .500 hitting percentage for the UMass Lowell Volleyball team in the 3-1 loss at Northeastern in the final day of the New England Challenge at the Cabot Center on Sunday.
The River Hawks drop to 1-12 overall on the year, while the Huskies up their mark to 7-6 overall.
Claybaugh also added four digs and notched four kills in the final set for the River Hawks. Junior outside hitter
Madi Bell (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) posted 10 kills and eight digs in the losing effort for the River Hawks. Sophomore middle blocker
Jessica Jubb (Millis, Mass.) continued her strong play with a career-high nine kills and four total blocks.
"We had moments where we played well, played as a team and played in sync,"said UMass Lowell Head Coach
Resa Provanzano. "We let momentum shift and we were trying to find ways to get out of those shifts a little quicker. In think the girls were playing with a very smart and aggressive mindset (sets 3 and 4)."
Junior
McKenna Bova (Corona, Calif.) and sophomore
Malia Randolph (McDonough, Ga.) recorded 22 and 13 assists respectively, running the River Hawks' offense. Freshman defensive specialist
Aleyna Kennel (Monument, Colo.) amassed a team-high 11 digs, while senior libero
Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glen, Ill.) also chipped in with nine digs on defense.
The River Hawks totaled 13 kills as a team in the first and third sets, while hitting at a .333 clip in the third and for a .206 hitting percentage in the opening frame.
Athena Ardila recorded a match-high 17 kills in the Northeastern win, while Hannah Boyd also managed 16 kills for the Huskies.
UMass Lowell returns to action on Friday, September 21st at New Hampshire to open America East Conference play. Match time from Lundholm Gym in Durham, N.H. is 7 p.m. The match will be streamed live on ESPN .
