CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell Volleyball team fell to Boston College, 3-1 in its opening match of the New England Challenge on Friday night at Power Gym. The set scores were 25-21, 23-25, 21-25 and 10-25.
The River Hawks drop to 1-10 overall with the loss, while the Eagles improve to 10-1 overall on the year.
"I was disappointed in the way it ended, but I am feeling very optimistic about the way it began," said Head Coach
Resa Provanzano. "The girls came out with a lot of fire, they were playing relentless volleyball and executing very very well, it was all the things we had talked about."
Sophomore setter
Malia Randolph (McDonough, Ga.) paced the River Hawks with a solid all-around match, notching a career and match-high 12 kills, a .241 hitting percentage, 14 assists and 13 digs.
Senior middle blocker
Lade Adeniyi (Springfield, Ill.), freshman outside hitter
Kate Bilyeu (Omaha, Neb.) and junior outside hitter
Katherine Claybaugh (Danville, Calif.) each chipped in with six kills apiece. Bilyeu hit at a .235 clip, while
Jessica Jubb (Millis, Mass.) notched five kills, a .364 hitting percentage and a career-high six total blocks. Adeniyi put away opening frame for the River Hawks with the set-clinching kill. Claybaugh and senior libero
Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glen, Ill.) each finished the night with seven digs.
Junior outside hitter
Madi Bell (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) also added five kills and three total blocks, while setter
McKenna Bova (Corona, Calif.) managed 21 assists in the losing effort.
Clare Naughton had a match-high 12 kills for the Eagles in the victory.
The River Hawks hit at a .357 clip in the opening frame with a match-high 13 kills and the River Hawks followed that up with 11 kills in the second and third sets.
UMass Lowell returns to action on Saturday, September 15
