LOWELL, Mass. – Despite evening things up in the second set, the UMass Lowell volleyball team (2-17, 1-5 AE) fell to UAlbany (10-8, 4-1 AE) in four sets on Friday night at Costello Athletic Center. The set scores were 14-25, 25-23, 14-25 and 19-25.
"Well, I think we played with a lot more fire since the last time we played at home, so that was good to see," said head coach
Resa Provanzano. "We're making a lot of progress with things we're working on. We're much improved, so as long as we can keep finding the right things to work on, I like where we're heading."
Redshirt sophomore
Malia Randolph (McDonough, Ga.) had a strong performance with a match-high 13 kills, three more than her previous career high of 10. Randolph was followed in kills by freshman
Kate Bilyeu (Omaha, Neb.) with 10.
After dropping the first set, the River Hawks came out with a vengeance in an intense second set, notching 18 kills to Albany's 11. A kill by Randolph ended the second set as the River Hawks evened up the set score at 1-1.
The Great Danes took the next two sets, however, and the River Hawks fell to 2-17 on the season.
The River Hawks played solid defense, with 67 total kills, led by senior libero
Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glen, Ill.) tallied 20 digs, and surpassed the 1,500-career dig milestone in the process. Freshman
Aleyna Kennel (Monument, Colo.) notched 16 digs, and junior
Madi Bell (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) had 13.
