LOWELL, Mass. – Due to Winter Storm Stella, the UMass Lowell baseball team was forced to make more schedule changes and will play four more games in Virginia after winning its last three contests.Â
River Hawk Rewind
The River Hawks began spring break with three straight wins to secure their first winning record the season, improving to 7-6. UMass Lowell outscored Delaware 15-3 in the teams' doubleheader on March 12, including a 10-1 win in game one. On his way to being named America East Player of the Week,
Chris Sharpe (Burlington, Mass.) came up a single shy of the cycle, going 4-for-6 with three RBI and three runs. In game two,
Collin Duffley (Manchester, Mass.) picked the win in the 5-2 decision in game two, striking out six over six scoreless innings, while
Colby Maiola (North Reading, Mass.) recorded two RBI. Sharpe picked up thee more hits and scored twice in the 6-5 win at Delaware, and
Nick Kuzia (Seymour, Conn.) earned his first win of the season.Â
Leading the Flock
Sharpe paces the UMass Lowell offense with a .400 average, 22 hits, 21 runs, six long balls and 52 total bases. The sophomore has also doubled eight times and has two triples with a .945 slugging percentage, while Maiola leads the team with 14 RBI. The group of

Scouting William & Mary
The Tribe (9-6) have won their last two contests after knocking off Yale on March 11 and 12. Cullen Large leads the team with a .375 average, 24 hits, nine doubles and 19 RBI. Charles Ameer sits atop with three home runs, while five players have connected on two long balls. On the mound, Nick Raquet is posting a 1.53 ERA, while Bodie Sheehan has three wins and 26 strikeouts. William & Mary is batting .286 and has a staff ERA of 4.95
Scouting Towson
The Tigers sit at 8-3 following their doubleheader split on March 12 against Norfolk State, taking game two 5-0. Richie Palacios has a .286 average with 12 hits, while A.J. Gallo has scored 11 runs. The duo of Colin Dyer and Trey Martinez have both driven in seven runs to pace the offense. The pitcher's are led by Skyler Morris' 0.82 ERA in 11 innings, and Michael Adams' two wins and 17 strikeouts. As a team, Towson is batting .219 and the staff has a 3.45 ERA.
Scouting St. John's
The Red Storm has rolled out to a 12-2 start on the season and sits at No. 19 in the latest DIBaseball.com Top 25 poll. St. John's was knocked off by Liberty, 7-6, on March 11 and will take on Iona before Saturday's tilt against UMass Lowell. John Valente is off to a hot start, batting .500 with 10 RBI and 32 total bases. Four players have hit two home runs for the Johnnies, and Jesse Berardi has a team-high 17 RBI. Saturday's starter, Ryan McAuliffe leads the staff with a 3-0 record and a 1.12 ERA, while Sean Mooney's 23 strikeouts pace the staff. St John's is hitting .331 as a team, and the staff has a 2.64 ERA.
Scouting Iona
The Gaels (4-6) snapped a five-game skid with a 2-0 win against Maryland Eastern Shore on March 11 to split a doubleheader, and will take on both St. John's and Towson before the weekend finale against UMass Lowell. Matt Byrne leads the offense with a .391 average, while Fran Kinsey has a team-high 12 hits. Sean Hoagland and Lou Matarazzo have six RBI and Matarazzo has the only two home runs of the season. Bill Maier has a staff-high two wins while Jared Finkel is posting a 2.57 ERA, and Patrick Ryan has 17 strikeouts. Iona is batting .261 and has an ERA of 5.33.
Series History
In 2015, William & Mary took four games from the River Hawks in the only previous meetings between the schools, while UMass Lowell has not taken the diamond against the other three schools.

Hangin' 11
The 11 runs against UConn marked the second consecutive season-opening win that the River Hawks crossed the plate 11 times. Last season, UMass Lowell defeated Nicholls State, 11-2, to begin 2016 1-0. It also marks the third time in DI that the River Hawks scored more than 10 runs in their first win of the season (14, vs. Temple, 2014).
