River Hawks play three matches at UIC Invitational This Weekend

SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS: UMass Lowell enters the UIC Invitational with a 5-6 overall record through 11 matches to date, after suffering a 3-0 loss to Northeastern on Tuesday at Costello Athletic Center. Sophomore Haley Shimon (Des Moines, Iowa) posted a team-high nine kills for the River Hawks in the losing effort. Shimon's 51 kills last week in four matches led all UMass Lowell players. The River Hawks own a 4-5 record away from Costello Athletic Center this season, which includes a 2-2 record at neutral sites. Freshman Madi Bell (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) leads the team with 107 kills, while Shimon is right behind Bell with 100 kills on the year. Freshman outside hitter Katherine Claybaugh (Danville, Calif.) ranks second among America East players 3.72 kills per set.

The River Hawks are one of three America East teams with five wins on the season. UMass Lowell third in America East with 1.48 service aces per set.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS: SIU-Edwardsville owns a 5-3 overall record and having won its last four matches, including a 3-0 win against Manhattan last Saturday at the Columbia Invitational. Ashley Witt leads the team with 106 kills on the season for the Cougars.

Bowling Green owns a 7-3 record on the season, including a 3-0 record away from its home court. The Falcons are coming off a 3-0 victory against Valparaiso on Tuesday night. Alyssa Maloney and Jelena Sunjic have each recorded 113 kills overall. 

Illinois-Chicago are a perfect 10-0 to start its 2016 campaign and will play their first home matches hosting the tournament this weekend. The Flames were victorious in their most recent match at Loyola Chicago (3-1) on Tuesday night. Alyssa Ehrhardt leads UIC with 159 kills to date.
