LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell baseball team enters the final calendar month of the 2016 season with a three-game series at Maine from April 30-May 1. 

River Hawk Recap
The River Hawks fell in their previous contest this week, 9-4 against Harvard, on Wednesday, April 26. The Crimson took a 5-1 lead after two innings, and after UMass Lowell cut it to 7-4, scored two in the ninth to escape with the win. Zack Tower (Auburn, Mass.) and Steve Passatempo (Medford, Mass.) both went 2-for-4 with a RBI in the contest. Oscar Marchena (Miami, Fla.) and Joe Consolmagno (Worcester, Mass.) drove in the other runs for the hosts. Matt Kerin (Quincy, Mass.) made his collegiate debut, pitching two scoreless innings with one strikeout. The River Hawks were scheduled to travel to Boston College on April 25, but the game was rained out.

Leading the Flock
Consolmagno leads the team with a .295 average, 39 hits and 22 runs, while he sits in second with 21 RBI. In the middle of the order, Steve Passatempo (Medford, Mass.) powers the offense with eighth homers and 35 RBI, to lead the conference in both categories. Chris Sharpe (Burlington, Mass.) leads the team with five doubles and has driven in 13 RBI. Ian Strom (Hopedale, Mass.) has stolen 15 bases, trailed by Consolmagno's 10 as the team is second with 55 steals. On the mound, Kendall Pomeroy (Shrewsbury, Mass.) has four wins, while Andrew Ryan (Rochester, Mass.) has three wins to his name and leads the staff with 46 strikeouts. Brendan Long (Naples, Fla.) leads the team and conference with eight saves, boasting a 1.80 ERA. UMass Lowell is batting .231 as a team, and the staff posts a conference-high 3.40 ERA.

Scouting Maine
The Black Bears (12-27, 2-9 AE) snapped a four-game losing streak with a 1-0 win against Rhode Island thier last time out on April 26. The skid included a three-game sweep at the hands of the Hartford Hawks April 23-24. Danny Casals leads the squad with a .308 average, 45 hits and 11 stolen bases. Colin Ridley and Tyler Schwanz has each hit four home runs and driven in 24 and 20 runs, respectively. On the rubber, Eddie Elmerson has a 1.08 ERA while Nick Silva has won three of his 13 appearances. Logan Fullmer and John Arel has struck out 50 batters apiece. As a unit, Maine is batting .248 and posts a 4.89 ERA.

Series History
UMass Lowell trails the all-time series 4-2, but came out on top in the final meeting last season, 1-6.
