No. 11 River Hawks fall at No. 2 Boston College, 3-1

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 11 ranked UMass Lowell Hockey team fell on Friday night at No. 2 Boston College, 3-1, in Hockey East action in front of 6,863 fans at Conte Forum.
 
With the loss, the River Hawks fall to 20-8-5 overall (11-6-4 HEA), while Boston College improves to 24-4-5 (15-1-5 HEA).
 
BC junior forward Ryan Fitzgerald got the Eagles on the scoreboard first just 3:38 into the game for his 19th tally of the season. Teddy Doherty gave BC a 2-0 lead with his 11th goal of the season off a rebound. Senior forward Adam Chapie (Oxford, Mich.) cut the BC lead to 2-1 with a turnover by the defense for his 14th goal of the season with 6:28 left in the period. UMass Lowell outshot the Eagles, 9-7 in the first period of play.
 
The teams skated to a scoreless second period. UMass Lowell killed off BC's 5x3 power play for 1:15 late in the period to keep the deficit at one goal. The River Hawks once again held the shot advantage in the second period, 15 to 9.
 
Ryan Fitzgerald scored his second goal of the game on an empty netter with UMass  Lowell on the power play to make it a 3-1 game to seal the win for the Eagles with just 3:12 left in regulation.
 
Senior goaltender Kevin Boyle made 20 saves in the loss for the River Hawks, while Thatcher Demko recorded 29 stops in his 23rd victory of the season for the Eagles.
 
UMass Lowell went 3-for-3 on the penalty kill, but was 0-for-7 on the power play. 
 
The River Hawks return to action Saturday, February 27th against Boston College in the Hockey East regular-season finale. Game time from the Tsongas Center is 7 p.m. The game will be televised live by New England Sports Network (NESN) with Alex Faust and Billy Jaffe with the call from Lowell.
 
Tickets for River Hawks home Hockey games are on sale now. Game tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors (65) and military, and $12 and children (12 and under). UMass Lowell students receive free admission by scanning their ID as part of the "River Hawk Rewards" campaign. Tickets can be purchased at the Tsongas Center Box Office, which is open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. during the week. Fans can also purchase tickets online at TsongasCenter.com or by calling 866-722-8780.
