River Hawks host pair of America East contests this weekend

SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS: UMass Lowell enters their last home conference weekend with a 6-16 overall record and a 1-6 mark in America East play. In the River Hawks most recent match the team picked up its first league win of the season last Saturday at Hartford in five sets. Freshman Madi Bell (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) totaled a career and match-high 17 kills to go along with 17 digs. Senior middle blocker Lauren Bennett (Wilmington, Mass.) chipped in with 13 kills, while sophomore libero Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glen, Ill.) amassed 23 digs in UMass Lowell's sixth win of the season.

Bell leads the team with 196 kills on the season, while Visvardis leads the team with 336 digs. Visvardis needs 103 digs over the final six matches of the year.

The River Hawks have already won four more sets than they did all of last year with five matches left in the season. 11 of the 30 sets (37%) they have won have come in the third frame this season.

The team continues to rank third in the league with 1.93 blocks per set and the River Hawks' 1.42 service aces per frame is fourth best among league teams. UMass Lowell ranks second in blocks in league play only at 2.45 per set and the team leads the conference with 1.59 service aces per frame in league play.

SCOUTING BINGHAMTON: The Bearcats enter Friday's match with a 10-11 record and a 4-3 record in America East tilts. The Bearcats own a 3-5 road record in eight matches this season. Binghamton has won its last two matches, including most recently a 3-0 road win against AE leader Albany last Friday night. Lauren Kornmann had 17 kills to pace the Bearcats in their fourth league win of the 2016 season. Kornmann leads the team with 111 kills so far this season. Binghamton won the first meeting of the season series against UMass Lowell by a 3-2 score on October 2nd at West Gym.

SCOUTING ALBANY: The Great Danes enter the weekend in first place in the America East standings with a 6-1 record and a 11-10 overall mark. Albany owns a 4-3 road record in seven matches this season. The Great Danes has won 10 of their last 11 matches dating back to Sept. 10th, their only loss came at the hands of Binghamton last weekend. Albany won the first meeting against UMass Lowell on Sept. 30th at  home by a 3-1 score. Laini Leindecker posted a match-high 15 kills in the Great Danes' victory. She currently leads the team with 231 kills in 2016.

BENNETT'S BIG BLOCK: Lauren Bennett's 1.04 blocks per set ranks second among America East players and her 1.34 blocks per frame in league play leads America East. She leads the team with 81 blocks (13s, 68a). She has totaled 3 blocks in 13 contests this season and in her last eight matches has posted 45 total blocks (1.32 bps) in 34 sets.

AHZI'S ACES: Senior middle blocker Elima Ahzi (Chula Vista, Calif.) has registered 11 of her 12 service aces in conference play this year and ranks first in the conference with 0.58 aces per set in league contests.
