PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 8 UMass Lowell Hockey team was defeated by No. 3 Providence College, 4-2, in Hockey East action on Friday night in front of 3,033 fans at Schneider Arena.

With the loss, the River Hawks drop to 14-5-4 overall (9-3-3 HEA), while the Friars up their record to 16-3-4 overall and 7-1-3 in league play.

Senior forward
A.J. White (Dearborn, Mich.) scored both of the River Hawks' goals at 10:24 of the second period and 2:24 of the third for his fifth and sixth tallies of the season. White matched a career-high for goals in a game, which he previously set on November 7, 2014 vs. Northeastern.

Providence stormed out of the gate with three first-period goals from Kevin Rooney, Mark Jankowski and Brandon Tanev. The Friars added one goal in the second period at 2:20 on Jake Walman's 13
th goal of the season to close out the scoring for Providence.

Senior
Kevin Boyle (Manalapan, N.J.) stopped 14 of 17 shots in the first period, while freshman
Christoffer Hernberg (Espoo, Finland) made his collegiate debut and finished the final two periods with 13 saves. Nick Ellis stopped 33 shots in his 15
th with of the season for the Friars.

The River Hawks outshot Providence, 35-31, for the game, which included a 22-6 shot advantage in the second period. UMass Lowell went 6-for-7 on the penalty kill against the Friars in the losing effort.

Freshman forward
Nick Master (Broomall, Pa.) finished the night with a game-high six shots on goal for the River Hawks.
