BOSTON -- The UMass Lowell Volleyball team was defeated by CAA foe Northeastern (3-2) on Tuesday night in non-conference action at the Cabot Center. The set scores were 19-25, 25-23, 25-22, 11-25 and 7-15.
The River Hawks fell to 0-8 overall on the season, while the Huskies improved their record to 2-7 on the year.
"We learned a lot, I told them in the locker room after the game, any loss is tough, but for three fourths of that match we played really good volleyball and we need to remember that," said Head Coach
Resa Provanzano. "They executed the game plan, obviously we just need to learn to stay focused for every point."
Junior right side hitter
Elima Ahzi (Chula Vista, Calif.) lead the way on offense for the River Hawks tying a career-high with nine kills in the losing effort. Rachael Arnason (Kelowna, B.C.) and
Haley Shimon (Des Moines, Iowa) each chipped in with seven kills apiece, while Arnason also added 11 digs. Arnason clinched the win with a kill in Set 2 to tie the match at 1-1.
Freshman libero
Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glen, Ill.) turned in another strong performance on defense with 23 digs for the River Hawks. Sophomore outside hitter
Masha Yelsukova (Santa Clara, Calif.) also totaled 11 digs against the Huskies.
The River Hawks return to the court on Friday, September 11th vs. San Jose State in their opening match of the UMass Lowell Tournament. Match time is 7 p.m. at Costello Athletic Center in Lowell.
