PEORIA, Ill. -- The UMass Lowell Volleyball team was swept by host Bradley in the final day of the CEFCU Classic at Renaissance Coliseum on Saturday afternoon. The River Hawks lost 3-0 by set scores of 21-25, 13-25, 22-25.
The River Hawks fell to 0-7 overall of the season, while the host Braves improved to 4-1 overall.
"We benefited tremendously from playing big and physical competition this weekend," said Head Coach
Resa Provanzano. "We fought hard today against Bradley and the team started to look a little more in sync with each other. We still need to produce more offense and make faster adjustments, but as long as we can stay focused, I like where our team is headed."
Junior middle blocker
Lauren Bennett (Wilmington, Mass.) totaled a team-high six kills with a .667 hitting percentage for the River Hawks. Freshman outside hitter
Haley Shimon (Des Moines, Iowa) finished the match with five kills and a .267 hitting percentage, while outside hitter
Rachel Arnason (Kelowna, B.C.) notched four kills in the losing effort. Junior setter
Alexa Toth (Portland, Ore.) amassed 10 assists running the UMass Lowell offense.
Freshman libero
Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glen, Ill.) recorded 13 digs and was the lone River Hawk named to the CEFCU Classic All-Tournament Team with 56 digs (5.6 dps) in three matches.
UMass Lowell had a match-high 10 kills and a .233 hitting percentage in the final set vs. Bradley.
The River Hawks return to action on Tuesday, September 8th at CAA foe Northeastern. Match time is 7 p.m. from Solomon Court in Boston, Mass.
