LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's soccer team is looking for consistency and its first win of the season, Friday night, 7 p.m., September 4, when it hosts Delaware State at the Cushing Field Complex.
 
"Consistency is the Key," said UMass Lowell Head Coach Joel Bancroft.  "Look at our recent games we've had some really bright moments.  We've shown the ability to score at a pretty healthy clip, but then we've had some moments where we are left scratching our head and a lot of that has been on the defensive side (of the ball.)  We have to find our consistency."
 
Looking at the River Hawks
UMass Lowell enters Friday night's contest with Delaware State in search of its first win of the season.  The River Hawks are coming losses to Rhode Island, 4-3, and Northeastern, 6-1.  Sophomore Rachel Morrier (Plaistow, N.H.) leads the team with two goals after scoring on penalty kicks in each of the games.
 
"You've got to go with confidence that you are going to score," said Morrier.  "You try not to be nervous."
 
Morrier, a transfer from Providence, is one of three first-year players who have had an immediate impact on the River Hawk offense.  Freshmen Isabelle Marquez (Seattle, Wash.) and Katelyn Vieira (Warwick, R.I.) have each scored goals and provided creativity and energy at the offensive end of the field.  The new faces have effectively complimented some key returnees junior Taylor Chianese (Chepachet, R.I.) lead the team with three goals a year ago. Sophomore Shannon Groffie (Toms River, N.J.) is the River Hawks top returning scorer.  She tallied one goal and seven assists during the 2014 season.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Julia Schneider (Bridgewater, Mass.) has a 5.00 Goals Against Average and .412 Save Percentage.
 
Scouting Delaware State
Delaware State, like the River Hawks, comes to Lowell looking for its first win of the season.  The Hornets are 0-3-0 are still looking for their first marker of the season after shutout losses to Lafayette, Temple and Quinnipiac.  Taylor Addison is the team's top returning scorer.  She notched two goals and five points a year ago.  Goalkeeper Michele Lammers has a 2.52 Goals Against Average and a .731 Save Percentage.
 
The Hornets went 6-12-1 a year ago, their second highest win total since the program was established in 2002.  Head Coach Kerri Scroope is in her third year directing the program.

"Whenever you have a familiarity with an opponent, it is a comfort to your players, but now we are another year further down the road and that coaching staff has done a great job to bring in some special players."
 
Series History
UMass Lowell and Delaware State have met just once before.  That was a year ago and UMass Lowell took the contest, 2-1, in double overtime.  Chianese scored the game winner after stripping the ball from a defender.
