Harring InterviewWILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Following a two week break between games, the UMass Lowell baseball team was swept in a doubleheader by William & Mary, 10-4 and 9-1, at Plumeri Park on Sunday afternoon.
Â
The River Hawks fall to 2-4 on the season while the Tribe up their record to 6-4. William & Mary picked up eight runs on nine hits off

Kevin Veilleux (Manchester, N.H.) after four innings in the nightcap.
Â
"We competed, we just didn't execute," said Head Coach
Ken Harring. "I tip my cap to them, they really swing the bats well and they are a well coached team."
Â
In the opener, catcher Ryan Hissey put William & Mary ahead with a solo homer to right in the bottom of the first before the Tribe added a pair in the bottom of the second. With runners on first and second W&M's Josh Smith hit a dribbler down the third base line that Matt Sanchez (Sunrise, Fla.) barehanded cleanly but sailed the throw to first over
Matt Mottola's (Newburyport, Mass.) head to score two runs.
Â
Mottola put the River Hawks on the board in the top of the third, ripping a single through the left side to score
Geoff DeGroot (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) who reached second on a fielders choice.
Â
The River Hawks scored three in the sixth as
Tim Fallon (Huntingtown, Md.) and
Brice Erickson (Leominster, Mass.) singled to right before
Luke Reynolds (Manchester, N.H.) singled to third.
Ben Prada (Laurel, Md.) grounded out to second pinch-hitting for
Kelly Rooney (Upton, Mass.) to score Fallon before Erickson and Reynolds came home on an error by William & Mary.
Â
Steven Xirinachs (San Diego, Calif.) came in for Lavoie, who falls to 0-2 on the season, and tossed four innings of relief, giving up two runs on three hits while striking out four.
Â
The River Hawks outhit the Tribe 13-12 but left 13 runners on, compared to four for W&M.
Â
A pinch-hit RBI from
BJ Foley (Sterling, Mass.) in the eighth was the River Hawks lone in the backend of the doubleheader as the Tribes Nick Brown gave up four hits in seven innings while striking out five.
Â
Senior shortstop,
Danny Mendick (Rochester, N.Y.) picked up two of the teams five hits and three hits on the day. Mendick and Sanchez each stretched their hitting streaks to five and have reached base in all six of the teams games.
Â
