Lowell, Mass. – The UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team entertains Siena for their Division I home opener February 21 at the Cushing Field Complex at 12 p.m.

River Hawk Recap
In their inaugural Division I game, the River Hawks were defeated by No. 15/17 Yale 19-4 this past Saturday. Freshman Cory Highfield (Georgetown, Ontario) netted the first two goals of the contest for UMass Lowell and played his way into the America East Rookie of the Week award.  Freshman Sean Tyrrell (Calgary, Alberta) and sophomore Sam Klingsporn (Aloha, Ore.) also tallied their first goals of the season. Sophomore Giles Ober (Southborough, Mass.) started the game in goal for the River Hawks and recorded 14 saves.

Starting in Style
UMass Lowell scored in the opening minute of each half against Yale. Highfield gave the River Hawks a 1-0 lead at the 14:21 mark of the first quarter and needed only 55 seconds to find the back of the net after the break.

Oh Captain, My Captain(s)
Head Coach Ed Stephenson named four captains for his squad back in October. Tyrrell along with freshman midfielder Jared Zaniewski (Sandwich, Mass.) and freshman attackman Jon Phillips (Delta, B.C.) join sophomore midfielder Martin Winter (Lake Oswego, Ore.) as the appointed leaders.

Youth Movement
With the rebirth of the program, UMass Lowell are team made up of mostly underclassmen. The River Hawks roster fields 27 freshmen, eight sophomores and one junior.

Scouting Siena
Saturday's tilt against the River Hawks will be the third straight on the road for the Saints. Siena began the season with a 21-7 loss to No. 4 Syracuse and fell last Friday to Hobart 12-8. Richie Hurley leads the team with seven points and is tied with Nate Berry for the team lead with four goals. Chris Robertson and Michael Pettit are the other multi-goal scorers for the Saints with three and two respectively.

Head Coach Ed Stephenson on Siena
"Siena is a veteran squad, returning several key players from their NCAA tournament team last year.  This game presents another huge test for our young squad, and we are looking forward to hosting a team of this caliber."
