LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team hosts its program home opener against No. 6 Boston College on February 18 at 4 p.m.
River Hawk Review
In their program opener, the River Hawks fell to Massachusetts 18-4. Taylor Sokol (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored two goals, including the historical first goal. Micaela Sanborn (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Emily Wright (Avon, Conn.) also scored their first career goals.
Sokol was named America East Rookie of the Week, and the River Hawk of the Week for her performance.
Protecting the Nest
Courtney Barrett (South Burlington, Vt.) made 14 saves in her collegiate debut. She also recorded five ground balls and six caused turnovers.
Beginning of a New Era
In its first year of competition, UMass Lowell's roster consists of 21 freshmen, two juniors and one sophomore.
Scouting Boston College
The No. 6 team in the nation defeated Johns Hopkins, 9-5, in the season opener for both teams. Caroline Margolis leads the team with three goals and three points. Sarah Mannelly, Mary Kate O'Neill and Kate Rich each have on assist. Rachel Igoe has four ground balls, and Zoe Ochoa has six saves. The Eagles are 1-of-5 on free-position shots.
