No. 4 River Hawks earn 5-3 road victory at Vermont

Senior forward Michael Fallon notches a game-high three points (1g,2a)

BURLINGTON, Vt. –
Senior forward Michael Fallon (Glenview, Ill.) scored three points (1g,2a) to lead the No. 4 ranked UMass Lowell Hockey team to a 5-3 road victory against Vermont in Hockey East action on Friday night at Gutterson Field House in front 3,711 fans.
 
With the win the River Hawks pick their first Hockey East victory of the season and move to 1-0-2 in conference play and 5-1-2 overall. The Catamounts fall to 2-5-1 and 1-1-1 in Hockey East contests.
 
The teams traded goals in the final period as A.J. White (Dearborn, Mich.) and Fallon picked up the River Hawk goals at 10:59 and 14:25, while UVM got goals from Alexx Privitera (9:56) and Mario Puskarich (18:07).
 
Senior forward Ryan McGrath (O'Fallon, Mo.) gave the River Hawks a 3-1 lead with 4:23 left in the middle frame with a backhanded shot that beat Mike Santaguida high glove side. UMass Lowell outshot the Catamounts by a convincing 17-5 margin in the second period.
 
Senior forward Michael Colantone (Cave Creek, Ariz.) gave the River Hawks a 2-0 lead just 12 seconds into the period for his first tally of the season and then UVM's Mike Lee struck just 4 minutes later to cut the River Hawks' lead to 2-1.
 
Junior defenseman Dylan Zink (Madison, Wis.) got the River Hawks on the scoreboard first with a wrist shot from the top of the right circle at 4:51 on the opening period. Vermont outshot UMass Lowell, 13-10, in the opening period.
 
Zink amassed a game-high seven shots on goal in the victory, while freshman Ryan Dmowski (East Lyme, Conn.) chipped in with four shots. Fallon earned assists on the Zink and McGrath goals.
 
Senior Kevin Boyle (Manalapan, N.J.) made 27 saves in his fifth win of the season, which included 13 saves in the opening frame and 10 in the third period. Santaguida finished the night with 30 stops in his eighth start of the season for the Catamounts.
 
The River Hawks return to action for the final game of the series at Vermont on Saturday, November 7th at Gutterson Field House. Game time is 7:05 p.m. UMass Lowell will play its next home game on Friday, November 13th against Maine. Game time from the Tsongas Center is 7:15 p.m.
