LOWELL, Mass. – Freshman outside hitter, Hayley Shimon (Des Moine, Iowa) recorded a career-high 24 kills as the UMass Lowell women's volleyball team was defeated by Grand Canyon, 3-2, in five sets. The set scored were 23-25, 25-20, 18-25, 25-23 and 6-15. 
With the loss, the River Hawks fall to 4-16, 1-11 AE, while Grand Canyon improves to 6-21 on the season. 
Shimon blasted a team-best 24 kills on the night, in addition to grabbing a service ace, while junior middle blocker 
Elima Ahzi (Chula Vista, Calif.) slammed 10 kills on 16 swings to record a .375 hitting percentage. Piloting the UMass Lowell offense was freshman setter 
Delaney Mendez (Phoenix, Ariz.), dishing out 28 assists, as junior setter 
Alexa Toth (Portland, Ore.) followed with 21. 
Defensively, freshman libero 
Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glenn, Ill.) posted 21 digs, to lead the team. Junior middle blocker 
Lauren Bennett (Wilmington, Mass.) tallied three blocks in the losing effort, while Ahzi and freshman middle blocker 
Lade Adeniyi (Springfield, Ill.) each added two blocks apiece. 
The River Hawks wrap up their season on Saturday, November 21 against Grand Canyon, slated to start at 6 p.m. eastern time.
