WEST HARTFORD, Conn. --
Freshman outside hitter Haley Shimon (Des Moines, Iowa) recorded a career-high 18 kills and a .333 hitting percentage to lead the UMass Lowell Volleyball team to a 3-2 America East victory at Hartford on Friday night at Hartford Volleyball Gym. The set scores were 25-23, 9-25, 22-25, 25-22 and 25-11.

"We are happy to have gotten a win tonight against a very determined Hartford team in a loud and energetic atmosphere," said River Hawks' Head Coach Resa Provanzano.  "We came out a little rattled, but I am pleased that we found a way to fight through it, relax, and just enjoy playing in a competitive match. It was nice to see several of our younger players step it up when we needed them."

With the victory, the River Hawks improve to 4-15 overall (1-2 AE), while the Hawks drop to 0-18 overall (0-4 AE).

Freshman middle blocker Lade Adeniyi (Springfield, Ill.) chipped in with 10 kills in the match and recorded set clinching kills once again in sets one and four. Junior middle blocker Lauren Bennett (Wilmington, Mass.) amassed nine kills, which included the match-clinching point, on the night with an impressive .727 hitting percentage to go along with four total blocks.

Freshman libero Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glen, Ill.) posted 21 digs to lead the River Hawk' defense, while Delaney Mendez (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Alex Toth (Portland, Ore.) split setting duties, notching 27 and 18 digs, respectively.

The River Hawks totaled 13 kills and .235 hitting percentage in the opening set and closed out the match with 10 kills and hit at a .273 clip in the final frame.

UMass Lowell returns to action for another America East road match on Sunday, October 11th at New Hampshire. Match time at Lundholm Gymnasium is 1 p.m.
