SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS: UMass Lowell enters Sunday's non-conference matchup against the Bobcats at Costello Athletic Center with a 4-18 overall record. The River Hawks currently sit in sixth place in the America East standings with a 1-5 record. UMass Lowell suffered a 3-0 loss at Albany last Sunday in its most recent match. Freshman outside hitter Haley Shimon (Des Moines, Iowa) notched a team-high seven kills in the losing effort for the River Hawks. Freshman libero Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glen, Ill.) totaled 19 digs leading the UMass Lowell defense. The River Hawks own a 2-4 record in six matches at Costello Athletic Center with five home matches remaining on the 2015 schedule. UMass Lowell owns a 2-0 all-time record vs. Quinnipiac. The River Hawks rank third as a team in America East with 1.84 blocks per set.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS: Quinnipiac owns a 2-19 on the season and a 1-9 record in MAAC play. The Bobcats are 1-4 at home and 1-5 away from Burt Kahn Court. Quinnipiac has lost five straight matches coming into Sunday's contest, including a 3-0 loss at Manhattan in its most recent match on Sunday. Katie Urycki leads the team with 197 kills, while Kat Miller paces the roster with 222 digs.
THE FIRST MEETING: The River Hawks picked up their first win of the season (3-2) against Quinnipiac in the final match of the UMass Lowell Invitational on Saturday, September 12th at Costello Athletic Center. Junior middle blocker Lauren Bennett (Wilmington, Mass.) registered a career-high 18 kills in the match, while freshman Lade Adeniyi (Springfield, Ill.) added 12 kills in the victory for the River Hawks. Co-Captain Rachel Arnason (Kelowna, B.C.) amassed a then career-high 16 digs in the victory vs. the Bobcats.
SHIMON LEADS THE WAY: Shimon has posted 10+ kills eight times this season for the River Hawks, which included a career-high 18 kills in the 3-2 road win at Hartford on October 9th and 17 kills on Oct. 17th at Binghamton. She has posted a .200 hitting percentage or better in six matches this year.
AMERICA EAST LEADERS: Junior mibble blocker Lauren Bennett ranks first in America East with a .310 hitting percentage and her 0.96 blocks per set is second best among conference players. Freshman libero Lindsey Visvardis' 3.92 digs per set ranks fourth best among America East players. Freshman middle blocker Lade Adeniyi (Springfield, Ill.) ranks fifth in America East with 0.79 blocks per set. Junior setter Alexa Toth (Portland, Ore.) ranks eighth with 4.63 assist per set, while Mendez ranks ninth at 4.34 helpers per set. Shimon ranks 11th in the conference with 2.32 kills per set.
